Shining the Spotlight on National Donate Life Month
Apr 1, 2023
San Ramon Regional Medical Center is proud to honor National Donate Life Month, a month to celebrate those who have received transplants, to recognize those who continue to wait, to honor donors and donor families and to thank registered donors for giving hope.
National Donate Life Month was established by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations in 2003.
We are proud to have a long-standing partnership with Donor Network West and together we have helped facilitate the donation of over 2,000 organs to patients in need. This April, we want to stop and take a moment to honor the amazing gift these donors and their families have provided and to remember the ongoing need for more people to register to be organ and tissue donors.
Currently there are more than 104,000 people waiting for an organ transplant in the United States, with more than 20,000 in California alone. Due to the lack of organ donors, 22 people die every day waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.
You can make a difference by registering today to be an organ and/or tissue donor. One donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and another 75 others through tissue donation. Your registration serves as a symbol of hope to patients waiting, and sharing it with your family lets them know your decision.
• Anyone can register to be an organ donor.
• All major religions support donation as a final act of compassion and generosity.
• There is no cost to your family.
• Your medical care and funeral arrangements will not be affected by your decision to donate.
• Organs and tissues are distributed based on medical criteria only.
The vast majority of Americans support donation as an opportunity to give life and health to others. Unfortunately, many people overlook the important step of registering as a donor. Donors are often people who die suddenly and unexpectedly. Their families are then faced with making the decision at a time of shock and grief. Registering relieves your family of this burden.
People of all ages and medical histories should consider themselves potential organ, eye and tissue donors. You can register your decision to be a donor by visiting DonateLife.net.
