San Ramon Regional Medical Center’s Virtual Cereal Drive Raises $430
Jun 20, 2021San Ramon Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that it donated $430 to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, during its Virtual Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive, which ran from June 7-14, 2021.
The donations collected will help provide local children and adults struggling with hunger with a healthy breakfast during the summer. Good nutrition is essential to good health, and summer is a particularly tough time for many food-insecure families because children can no longer rely on schools for nutritious meals, putting an added burden on these families.
“This past year has been particularly devastating for families struggling with hunger, as the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in extreme food shortages in many communities. It’s more important than ever to support those who are most vulnerable,” said Ann Lucena, CEO of San Ramon Regional Medical Center. “We’re proud to be a part of this summertime initiative which helps provide nutritious breakfasts for those struggling with hunger in communities near us.”
Financial donations are crucial to creating a complete healthy breakfast. The money is used to buy perishable items such as milk, fruit/vegetables, and lean protein that can complement whole grains.
With the volume of food the food bank purchases, they can acquire four times as much nonperishables per dollar than any consumer can at retail price. Over half of the food they distribute is fresh fruits and vegetables. A $100 donation can provide 800 pounds of fruits and vegetables. Every $1 provides 2 meals.
San Ramon Regional Medical Center is grateful for the support of its staff and community in this effort.
