San Ramon Regional Medical Center Utilizing Latest Technology in Robotic Surgery

Oct 1, 2019

San Ramon Regional Medical Center is proud to announce the recent acquisition of the da Vinci Xi Surgical System.

Robotic System DaVinci

The da Vinci Xi System was designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery. The system can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery.

“We are thrilled to expand our robotic surgical capabilities used for minimally invasive procedures,” said Ann Lucena, CEO of San Ramon Regional Medical Center. “Residents in San Ramon have access to this cutting-edge technology right in their backyard.”

The new system offers three dimensional high definition visualization and allows for enhanced dexterity and greater precision and control for the surgeon. The surgeon is 100-percent in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci System, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body.

Key features include:

  • A new overhead instrument arm architecture designed to facilitate anatomical access from virtually any position.
  • A new endoscope digital architecture that creates a simpler, more compact design with improved vision definition and clarity.
  • An ability to attach the endoscope to any arm, providing flexibility for visualizing the surgical site.
  • Smaller, thinner arms with newly designed joints that offer a greater range of motion than ever before.
  • Longer instrument shafts designed to give surgeons greater operative reach.

“The da Vinci Xi Surgical System is the pinnacle of minimally invasive surgical technology, providing 3D optics, superior control and ergonomics, and precise dissection. The result is smaller scars, faster recovery and better outcomes for patients,” said Dr. Aileen Murphy, surgeon at San Ramon Regional Medical Center.

Other benefits include reduced trauma to the body, reduced blood loss and need for transfusions, less post-operative pain and discomfort, less risk of infection and less scarring.

The da Vinci Xi System is an expandable technology platform that is designed to accommodate and seamlessly integrate a range of current technologies, as well as future innovations, in areas such as imaging, advanced instruments and anatomical access.

“We are proud to offer this technology in our community,” Lucena added. “We are committed to providing our patients with access to the best possible healthcare available, and the implementation of the da Vinci Xi Surgical System is a perfect example of this commitment.”

San Ramon Regional Medical Center began utilizing robotic-assisted surgery in 2000 and continues to expand the program, empowering physicians to offer exceptional surgical care to their patients. The hospital was the first program west of the Mississippi River to perform da Vinci procedures.

After recently acquiring the Xi Surgical System, San Ramon Regional Medical Center moved its Si Surgical System (previous da Vinci model) to its surgery center, located at 5801 Norris Canyon Road, becoming the first surgery center in the Bay Area to offer da Vinci procedures. The hospital is also the first and only outpatient surgery center within Tenet Healthcare to have an outpatient robotic surgery program.

Save the Date: San Ramon Regional Medical Center will be hosting an open house and ribbon cutting on Jan. 22, 2019, for the new surgical system. This will be a great opportunity for photos, videos and interviews. More details to come.
