COVID-19 Vaccines Administered to San Ramon Regional Teams

Dec 16, 2020

It was a historic moment as frontline workers began receiving their COVID-19 vaccines at San Ramon Regional Medical Center on Dec. 16, 2020.

Dr. Renzo Cardena – Emergency Medicine Physician – was the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at San Ramon Regional. There were lots cheers and claps as the first vaccine was administered.

“The vaccine is an important step forward to get back to normalcy,” Dr. Cardena said. “Obviously the highest risk and most vulnerable should be vaccinated first. However, eventually when the young and healthy are offered the vaccine, this will be a crucial step in combating this virus. When the young and healthy get vaccinated, this is more to protect their loved ones, and can be viewed as a selfless act of humanity.”

We are vaccinating eligible members of our staff in accordance with FDA, CDC, state, and local guidelines. We are hopeful that we will be able to immunize all healthcare workers working in areas that are high risk for COVID exposures in the first few weeks of immunizations. Immunization of all healthcare workers will happen in the first phase of immunization.

There was definitely a sense of hope and excitement as caregivers received their vaccines. While there is still work to be done and we can't let our guards down, we are heading in the right direction.

The most effective safety measures we can take against COVID-19 continue to be wearing a mask, washing our hands, and maintaining social distance.
